5 out of 5 stars Finally - A Treadmill for "Bigger Boys"   July 8, 2008

At 6'3 270lbs I've found that there are not a lot of consumer treadmills that I can use. The Smooth 9.45st seems to be a winner for me. With a maximum weight of 400lbs and 300lbs on it's fastest speed, the machine was designed to hold up. It does. I can run at 10mph without the belt slipping on me. Anyone with a little weight knows exactly what I'm talking about and how annoying it is.

The deck on this machine is LONG. At 6'3 I've got a long stride. No more running on top of the dashboard with the 9.45st. It feels weird running in the middle of the deck and still having plenty of room available so as not to slide off the back.

Some of the other features include the hydra deck. I'm not 100% sold on it, but I bought the treadmill to run on. The hand sensors (to increase and decrease the speed) are great. Simply hold your hands over the sensors in the arms and the speed will increase and decrease without touching the console. VERY COOL and useful feature. The computer programs are nice too but again I use mine to simply run using the HIIT style of aerobic activity (as advocated by Shawn and Bill Phillips.) The incline works very well too.

It's a little pricey but worth the money if you're a bigger person. When you factor in a lifetime warranty on the whole machine (belt, frame, motor, electronics, etc..) it helps make the 9.45st a smart investment!

Great piece of equipment with many features. It is of solid construction and I hope it will last a long time.

One issue was that it was difficult putting together. I still was not able to get the side panels on.

1 out of 5 stars Don't buy without testing!   April 22, 2010

I bought the Smooth 9.45 treadmill because I read good reviews on the web. I did not test the treadmill - after all, I travel all the time and run on different types of treadmills in gyms without having a problem. BIG MISTAKE. I hated running on the Smooth. The Hydra suspension system is not for me! It's terrible! My knees started hurting from running on it - and I run on hilly terrain regularly without ever having had knee problems. I thought I would get used to it, tried every single setting - but I certainly did not. I also like to walk fast on the highest incline for training - but the incline on this treadmill is not what it pretends to be, it only says 15 but does not go up very much, not comparable to any other machine I have used in gyms. Very frustrating! So in the end I paid somebody to get this thing out of my basement (too heavy for me to handle) - and bought a LifeFitness treadmill - I love it! Expensive mistake! I encourage you not to repeat my mistake. DON'T BUY THIS TREADMILL WITHOUT TESTING IT!!!!

1 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY for the "Hydra suspension system"   December 14, 2009

For the life of me I can not understand the other reviews concerning the Hydra suspension system. After receiving, setup, and running on this treadmill I found the much praised Hydra suspension system nonexistent! I immediately called the company to complain and was informed by customer service,"At the highest setting (hydra suspension system)there is only a slight difference that can be felt when the machine is set in the incline position". WHAT THE .......?!?! This experience has sincerely taught me to think twice about the feedback I read.
